YAGER Development's 'Pitch Archives': A Journey Through 25 Years of Unreleased Game Concepts

YAGER Development GmbH, a Berlin-based game studio celebrating its 25th anniversary, has launched "Pitch Archives," a video series that unveils the company's unreleased game concepts and prototypes. The series premiere, featuring "Vertical War," is now available on YAGER's YouTube channel and official website.

"Pitch Archives" offers an intimate look at the creative process behind game development, showcasing various game pitches and prototypes that played instrumental roles in shaping the studio's evolution. Each episode explores the development context of these unreleased titles, accompanied by interviews with team members involved in their creation.

The inaugural episode highlights "Vertical War," an ambitious third-person cover shooter concept from 2006. Set in a dystopian megalopolis, the game would have introduced innovative vertical gameplay mechanics to the cover shooter formula. Despite never reaching full production, "Vertical War" influenced successful titles like "Spec Ops: The Line."

The bi-weekly series serves as more than just a retrospective of unreleased games. Throughout 2024, each episode will contribute to a larger narrative about YAGER's evolution as a studio, culminating in a comprehensive documentary at the year's end. The documentary will explore how projects like "Vertical War" influenced YAGER's approach to game development and the broader context of the gaming industry's evolution.

New episodes of "Pitch Archives" will be released every two weeks, accompanied by in-depth articles, developer insights, and behind-the-scenes material. This regular cadence of content ensures that fans and industry professionals can engage with YAGER's history and creative process throughout the anniversary year. The series represents YAGER's dedication to transparency and community engagement, offering viewers insights into the creative and technical challenges that shape game development.
