Wednesdays: A Game Exploring Childhood Sexual Abuse, Coming Spring 2025
Gaming Staff • February 13, 2025
Pc Games Indie Game Early AccessARTE, The Pixel Hunt, and Pierre Corbinais have announced their latest project, Wednesdays, a real-life game combining storytelling and management. The game is set to be released in Spring 2025 for PC and Mac via Steam and itch.io. The game's narrative is designed to raise awareness of sexual abuse committed within the family, and it is not recommended for children under 18 due to the sensitive subject matter.
Wednesdays is an easy-to-play experience that takes the form of an interactive visual novel. The player manages an amusement park, Orco Park, and unlocks Tim's memories one by one as they build attractions and decorate the park. Each memory is explored from the perspective of a new character from Tim's entourage, allowing the player to unravel his memory.
The game features two graphic styles, one inspired by independent comics and graphic novels, and the other by the colorful pixel-art of 90s management games. The game contains no scenes of sexual assault, and content warnings are available for each memory.
Wednesdays is a thoughtful narrative that helps decipher the victims' silence and recognize the manifestations of sexual abuse in the people around us. The game has given many of its developers the opportunity to make their voices heard, not only as video game artists and creators but also as victims for some of them.
The game is co-produced by ARTE France, The Pixel Hunt, and Pierre Corbinais, and published by ARTE France. The Pixel Hunt and Pierre Corbinais are known for their work on unique and committed titles such as Bury Me, My Love and The Wreck.
ARTE is a European public cultural media that brings Europeans closer together through culture. They have been co-producing and publishing independent video games for over ten years, including Type:Rider, Homo Machina, Vectronom, Inua, Bury Me My Love, 30 Birds, and Looking for Fael.
The Pixel Hunt is a studio that designs and produces reality-inspired games, pieces at the intersection between journalism, documentary, and video games. Their productions aim to be as distinctive in their artistic direction as they are in their storytelling.
