1047 Games has launched the open alpha for Splitgate 2, the sequel to the popular portal-jumping FPS game, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The open alpha will be available from February 27 to March 2, 2025, and will feature crossplay for the first time in the series.

Splitgate 2's open alpha includes several new features, such as the all-new 24-player multi-team experience, Multi-Team Portal Warfare, which allows players to participate in three-team 8v8v8 matches. This new mode combines the fluidity of portal movement with an expansive playfield for a wealth of opportunities to outmaneuver opponents. Multi-Team Portal Warfare will be playable in two modes: Multi-Team Domination and Multi-Team Hotzone.

The open alpha also includes new game modes such as Splitball, a two-team arena mode that combines Capture the Flag and Halo's Oddball, challenging rivals to master both offense and defense simultaneously. Firecracker, a new twist on the conventional two-team Search & Destroy match type, is also introduced.

Three new thrilling maps are introduced in the open alpha: Glacier, Bypass, and Eden. Glacier is a massive map, 20 times larger than any other map in Splitgate, designed for the new pace of action in Multi-Team Portal Warfare. Bypass is Splitgate's most vertical map yet, while Eden is packed with portal walls inside and out, giving players endless opportunities to flank, escape, and dominate.

Players will have access to eight unique primary and secondary weapons across three factions, for a total of 24 base firearms. Nine pieces of equipment that deepen the strategic possibilities at hand are also included.

Splitgate 2 is the sequel to the 2021 smash-hit Splitgate, which amassed 22 million downloads and critical acclaim for its fast-paced, innovative FPS gameplay.
