WoodRunner Games, an independent game development studio based in Montreal, has announced its debut game, Croak, at this year's Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. The full reveal trailer for this hand-drawn 2D precision platformer was showcased during the Future Games Show. The game, which is set in a cursed kingdom and features a prince turned frog, will be available for play at Gamescom in the Indies of the Americas Pavilion and Business Area.

Croak is a "fractured fairytale" that combines a classic platforming genre with a fresh and challenging gameplay. The game features an innovative grapple mechanic, where players use the frog prince's tongue to navigate through hundreds of hand-crafted rooms, manipulating the environment and overcoming distinct biomes, each with its own unique hazards, gameplay, and bosses. The game is brought to life with stunning hand-drawn art and animation, created by some of the talented artists behind Cuphead and the Rick and Morty Show.

The game follows the frog prince, Frogo, on his quest to return to his hexed home and lift the curse. Along the way, players will encounter quirky and loveable characters, unlock secret areas, find collectibles, and face enemies. The game is set to be released on PC via Steam, with additional platforms to follow.

WoodRunner Games, founded in 2020, is an independent game studio focused on sharing its passion for the platform genre through its dynamic and immersive gaming experiences. The studio's team includes veteran talent from both AAA and indie studios, with notable credits including Cuphead and the Rick and Morty Show.
