The UK Government has pledged new funding to the London Games Festival as part of its Creative Industries Sector Plan. The funding is part of a larger three-year, £30m Games Growth Package aimed at supporting the next generation of game studios and talent, and driving inward investment in the sector. The London Games Festival is delivered by Games London, an initiative from Film London and video games trade body Ukie, and has been supported by the Mayor of London since its inception. The additional funding from the Central Government, along with the multi-year funding already committed by the Mayor of London, will cause the festival's outputs in terms of investment and revenue generation to double, reaching £30m a year starting in 2026. The funding will help the festival continue to play an active role in supporting the video games ecosystem and UK economic growth, generating millions for the economy. The funding will also help the festival to expand its programme, grow existing programmes UK-wide, and develop new ones, as well as improve its international outreach, talent development, and cultural activity. The festival has already established itself as the UK’s largest games event, with 100,000 total attendees annually, and recently delivered its milestone 10th Anniversary edition. It is currently funded by the Mayor of London and programmes including the UK Shared Prosperity fund. The increased investment from national government will help to further promote London and the UK as a video games centre of excellence to global investors and decision makers through the Festival and trade missions.
