The 2D single-player roguelite with turn-based combat and dice mechanics is set to release in Early Access in Q3 2025 on Steam and Itch.io for $14.99 in English and German.
Soulblaze follows the story of Sadia, an Animancer who can bind Animons, as she fights corrupted monsters and tries to bring back her wife by unlocking the secret of the Soulblaze phenomenon and reaching the Observer, the alien source of the Animons.
The game features hand-drawn creatures, dice as part of the load-out, and persistent upgrades that change and improve the run experience. Twitch integration allows players to play with their viewers and let them adopt their own Animons. Soulblaze also offers various accessibility features, including screen-reader mode, and is set in a 90's retro fantasy setting with flash drives, sticker albums, marbles, and lore to discover in the form of comic pages.
Soulblaze is being developed in Godot and is playable on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck. A demo was released in February 2025, and an updated version will be available during the Steam Next Fest from June 9th to 16th. A public alpha version has been available on Itch.io since early development and receives regular updates.
Sword & Quill aims to create games with heart, stories, and a dedication to accessibility, inclusiveness, and representation. Zein Okko, the founder of the studio, has been creating games since 2011 and has no plans of stopping anytime soon.
