The game, set to launch on June 18, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation®5 (PS5™), will include full Scottish Gaelic subtitles, menu options, tooltips, and text boxouts for certain interactable items.
Scottish Gaelic is an endangered language, with only 2.5% of Scotland's population reporting some Gaelic-language skills in the 2022 Census. The Chinese Room saw an opportunity to promote the language and include it in the game to enhance the authenticity of the Scottish story.
Still Wakes the Deep is a first-person narrative horror game where players take on the role of an offshore oil rig worker fighting for their life in a vicious storm, perilous surroundings, and the dark, freezing North Sea waters. The game's soundtrack includes the Scottish Gaelic song "Fath Mo Mhulaid A Bhith Ann," performed by Maggie MacInnes.
The game supports multiple languages, including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Scottish Gaelic for its interface and subtitles.
The Chinese Room is an award-winning game development studio based in Brighton, UK, known for its innovative first-person gaming and storytelling. Still Wakes the Deep is the studio's latest project and a return to the narrative horror genre. Secret Mode, the publishing wing of Sumo Group Ltd, will publish the game.
