The update, also known as "Cargo 2.0," aims to improve the simulation experience with a new era in cargo management and transportation. Notable features include the Sabre Peregrine, a flyable racing ship, and "Cargo Empires," which dramatically changes how pilots interact with their ships and cargo.
Cargo Empires introduces several key features, such as freight and ship elevators, personal hangars, and instancing in spaceport hangars. Freight elevators allow for direct transfer of items to and from personal inventories, while loading and unloading of ships can be done manually or automatically. Personal hangars can now be decorated and stocked with mission-critical items, and instancing in spaceport hangars enables more incoming and outgoing traffic simultaneously.
The update also introduces new hauling missions, contracting players to transport large volumes of cargo in realistic logistics networks. Commodities transactions have been enhanced, with physicalized cargo boxes now varying in size based on factors like location and transporting ship. A new global event, Blockade Runner, challenges players to help when a Station comes under attack from pirates stealing outgoing cargo.
Star Citizen combines classic space sim and FPS gameplay with boundary-pushing visuals in a massively multiplayer setting. The game features multiple planets and moons, including vast cities and underground caverns, all created with a unique combination of procedural planet technology and hand-crafted design. Players can choose their paths, shifting from cargo hauler to outlaw, explorer, or any other role whenever they want.
