Keen Software House has announced the sequel to their popular sandbox game, Space Engineers. Space Engineers 2 is set to launch on Steam Early Access on January 27th, 2025. The game is powered by the next-gen proprietary VRAGE3 engine and features a reimagined 25cm unified grid system, new blueprint tools, and improved creation and destruction mechanics.

Space Engineers 2 takes place in the Almagest, a newly discovered planetary system that awaits colonization. The game will begin its Early Access journey with Creative Mode, where players can build and experiment with precision using new blueprint tools and powerful building tools. The game also features ray-traced global illumination, realistic shadows, and tessellated voxel materials, adding depth and realism to every scene.

During Early Access, Keen Software House will focus on optimizing the game's performance and adding new features such as a UGC Workshop, advanced modding tools, planets and survival, volumetric water, multiplayer, NPCs, and a story campaign. The game's development will follow a unique approach, focusing on individual Vertical Slices, which are fully playable portions of the game with specific core features.

Space Engineers 2 offers an open-world sandbox experience where engineering meets exploration, construction, and survival in the vastness of space. The game allows players to build everything from starships to space stations and craft their own path in the Almagest system. Preorders for the game are now available, and the Pioneer Edition includes the game's soundtrack, exclusive wallpapers, and behind-the-scenes materials.
