Amsterdam-based game development studio, Mystery City Games, in partnership with indie.io, has launched its new adventure puzzler, A Death in the Red Light, on Steam. The game, set in Amsterdam in 1988, offers players a gritty true-crime mystery experience as a hard-boiled detective of the Amsterdam Police, tasked with solving a case that stumped every other officer on the force. The story-driven puzzle experience is designed to provide an authentic detective experience, challenging players with puzzles that replicate the feel of police work, from mundane tasks like sifting through piles of items to find evidence to more complex tasks like ballistics and blood tests, suspect identification, and confession extraction. A Death in the Red Light is not a mere port of Mystery City Games' escape game of the same title but a rebuilt version with an expanded storyline, new puzzles, a unique noir art style, and a fleshed-out 1988 Amsterdam setting. Mystery City Games has been creating escape games and treasure hunts set across Europe since its founding in 2018, each designed to entertain players with non-linear adventures and immerse them in meticulously researched local history. A Death in the Red Light represents their first foray into the video game market. The game is now available on Steam, and players can follow Mystery City Games on Instagram for the latest updates and community support.
