Sick Samurai: Blazing Fast, Instant-Death Combat with Retro Anime Style

Solideo is developing Sick Samurai, an action-packed game inspired by instant-death combat, similar to Hotline Miami, with a nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop. The game boasts a unique lofi soundtrack with elements of hip hop, jazz, soul, and funk, accompanied by hand-drawn retro anime-style art.

Sick Samurai features hand-crafted levels with multiple paths and strategies, and players can upgrade and make item choices as they progress. The game's combat focuses on a fast-paced dash-and-slash attack mechanic, requiring precision, speed, reflexes, and planning. Players can instantly restart levels upon death, and repetition is essential for mastering the combat system.

The game is set on the fictional island of Furikyu, which blends Edo period Japan with various 20th century urban American cultures. Players control a young man seeking to become the greatest fighter on the island by learning from the infamous ex-samurai, Genyu. Together, they embark on a journey to challenge the four powerful samurai who run the island.

Sick Samurai also features fully voice-acted dialogue with branching choices that shape the player's relationships with the game's characters. The game is set to release on PC via Steam in Q4 2025.
