Royal Navy Unveils Floating Esports Suite on HMS Prince of Wales

The Royal Navy, in partnership with the British Esports Federation, has unveiled a floating esports suite on the HMS Prince of Wales, a UK aircraft carrier. The suite, equipped with high-end gaming PCs, aims to enhance the sailors' digital skills and provide an additional space for relaxation during their downtime.

The esports facility is part of a broader partnership between the British Esports Federation and the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) to foster social connections and promote esports within the military. The partnership also includes a launch event and international tournament, with future leagues organized by the Royal Navy Esports.

Esports has gained recognition by the MoD as an official military sport, unlocking more funding and opportunities for personnel. The UK Government has also launched an Armed Forces recruitment scheme to fast-track gamers into cyber defense roles.

The Royal Navy, as the senior service within the UK Armed Forces, comprises a Surface Fleet, Submarine Service, Royal Marines, Fleet Air Arm, and Royal Fleet Auxiliary. The themes of the Royal Navy are Global, Modern, and Ready, emphasizing its role in maintaining global security and readiness for action.

The British Esports Federation, established in 2016, is the national body for esports in the UK, dedicated to increasing esports awareness, improving esports standards, and inspiring future esports talent. The Federation is a member of the Global Esports Federation for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and a founding member of the International Olympic Committee Esports and Gaming Liaison Group.
