Reforged Studios, a UK-based game developer and publisher, has announced the acquisition of Yellow Lab Games, an independent game studio based in Cape Town, South Africa. This is Reforged Studios' third indie studio acquisition this year, following Ground Shatter in March and Extra Mile Studios in August.

Peter Van Der Watt, the South African founder and CEO of Reforged Studios, has been a long-time advocate for the game development talent in South Africa. He expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating that Yellow Lab Games is home to some of the top games talent in the region. Yellow Lab Games will continue to operate independently within the Reforged Studios group, developing both their own intellectual property and contributing to ongoing projects under the Reforged Studios umbrella.

Yellow Lab Games is currently working on Metavoidal, a heavy metal themed action roguelite, which is set to release in 2025 on PC and consoles. Reforged Studios believes in investing in game development teams and enabling as many players as possible to enjoy their games. The acquisition of Yellow Lab Games is part of Reforged Studios' broader investment in Africa's burgeoning gaming scene.

Reforged Studios was founded in 2023 and has operations in the UK and Malta. The company develops and publishes games for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile. Yellow Lab Games is an eclectic team of South African developers, with a range of experience from ex-metal band members to industry veterans. The team is focused on creating wholesome and creative games.
