The game features Coni, a robotic engineer who uses a wheelchair and creates robots called Mechas to help humanity. When all the Mechas start malfunctioning, Coni sets out to discover the cause. Players must solve environmental puzzles, avoid traps, and face bosses while repairing robots.
Mecha is designed to be accessible to players of all ages and abilities, with minimal fast actions, adjustable joystick sensitivity, and the option to assign specific buttons to actions. Frédéric McNamara, the founder of Shishi Studios and the game's designer, created Mecha to promote inclusion, as he lives with muscular dystrophy and has faced challenges playing video games himself.
Shishi Studios made its debut in May 2022 with Shishi: Timeless Prelude, a colorful dungeon exploration game that received praise at the MEGAMIGS industry event and from players. The studio is also working on Shishi: Ballad of the Oracle, an open-world RPG, and Mercury, a narrative puzzle game centered on hacking.
Shishi Studios is committed to promoting accessibility and social themes in its games. The studio's mission is inspired by McNamara's personal experience with muscular dystrophy, and the small team brings together designers, artists, programmers, and sound designers to create ambitious games that innovate through experimentation with new visual styles and genres while ensuring they are accessible to all.
