The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced a new collaboration with iNK Stories, a New York-based game studio, to create a screen life thriller video game called "Lili." The game is set in contemporary Iran and features Lady Macbeth, one of Shakespeare’s most iconic female leads, as the main character. Zar Amir, a Cannes Best Actress winner and Iranian woman in exile, plays Lady Macbeth and co-produces the game through her Paris-based Alambic Production. The game allows players to access Lady Macbeth's personal devices and immerses them in a stylized, neo-noir vision of modern Iran, where surveillance and authoritarianism are part of daily life. The witches from Macbeth are reimagined as hackers, and the game explores themes of technological domination, manipulation of information, and institutional violence. The game is set for release in 2025 and is a follow-up to iNK’s acclaimed game, 1979 Revolution: Black Friday. The RSC is supported by Arts Council England, the Culture Recovery Fund, RSC America, and a Creative Research Capability grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
