Kalma Games, an independent Finnish game studio, has announced the demo release of their debut game, KILLBEAT. This is an isometric rhythm shooter roguelike, now available to download on Steam for PC users. To celebrate the demo release, Kalma Games is hosting a "Beat the Boss" competition on August 4, 2024. Players who manage to beat the boss in the demo will receive the full game for free.

KILLBEAT combines rhythm shooting with the replayability of roguelikes, providing an action-packed, skill-driven experience. Key features of the game include shooting, dashing, and killing to the beat, collecting freestyle charges to create custom rhythms, experiencing a branching story in a procedurally generated world, and competing with friends through daily and weekly challenges.

The demo includes the first biome and boss from the full release, with an unlockable hard mode. Players can register for the 'Beat the Boss' event within the demo. KILLBEAT is set in Cadence Drop, a rift opened by the awakening of a godlike being at the heart of the planet. Players must fight their way through monsters and bosses, engaging with branching story encounters as they venture deeper.

In the 'Beat the Boss' competition, players challenge Kalma Games CEO Atte-Petteri Ronkanen. Those who beat his score will receive the full game for free, while others will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a key for the full game. Content creators who livestream their gameplay and beat the CEO's score will get additional keys to distribute to their audience. The event is set for August 4, 2024.
