Introducing the Powerful and Customizable Framework Desktop: Pre-orders Open for AMD Ryzen AI Max-Powered Mini-ITX PC

Framework, a company known for its modular and upgradable laptops, has announced the Framework Desktop. This mini-ITX desktop is powered by AMD's Ryzen AI Max processors, offering up to 16 cores, discrete-level graphics, and support for up to 128GB of unified LPDDR5x memory. The desktop is designed to be small, simple, powerful, and customizable, with support for hundreds of brands and millions of consumers in the PC ecosystem.

The Framework Desktop uses standard PC components, including a Mini-ITX form factor mainboard, a semi-custom 400W power supply, standard 120mm CPU fans, and two PCIe NVME M.2 2280 slots for up to 16TB of storage. Customization options include black or translucent side panels, RGB fans, a carrying handle, and color-customizable front panel tiles. The only drawback is the non-upgradeable memory, which is soldered to the board to enable high memory bandwidth.

The top-end Ryzen AI Max+ 395 configuration with 128GB of memory starts at just $1999 USD, making it an excellent value for gaming and AI workloads. The base configuration, with the 8-core Ryzen AI Max 385 configuration and 32GB of memory, starts at $1099. All systems are DIY Editions, allowing users to bring their own storage and operating system.

In addition to the Framework Desktop, Framework has also announced the AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series-powered Framework Laptop 13. This laptop brings new processors, Wi-Fi 7, a revamped thermal system, a next-generation keyboard, and new Bezel and Expansion Card color options. The laptop is fully upgradeable and repairable in a thin, light 13.5” form factor, with support for previous generation systems going back to 2021.

The new Framework Laptop 12 has also been announced, a durable, repairable, upgradeable, 12.2” touchscreen convertible notebook. The laptop is designed for students and young people around the world, with a focus on upgradeability, longevity, and color
