RuniQ, an independent game development studio from Quebec City, Canada, has announced the release of its co-op side-scrolling brawler, Heroes of Mount Dragon. The game is set to launch on PC in June 2025 and on Nintendo Switch in September 2025, with a playable demo currently available on Steam as part of the Steam Couch Co-Op Festival.

Heroes of Mount Dragon is a nostalgic blend of fantasy and colorful Saturday morning cartoons, featuring hand-drawn 2D realms and textures integrated into a vibrant 3D environment. The game offers thrilling side-scrolling action, with up to four players choosing from an array of dragon-morphing heroes, each with unique abilities, combos, and powerful attacks. Players can transform into dragons, level up during their progress, and use power-ups or curses to gain an edge in battles.

The game features various modes, allowing players to collaborate or compete, both locally and online. Players can enjoy the adventure and arcade mode with up to three friends, or challenge them in the competitive mode. The game's art style is characterized by vibrant 2D realms and a light-hearted tone that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Heroes of Mount Dragon will release with eight unique dragon-morphing heroes, although only four will be available at launch in June. The other four characters will be added in future game updates. Players can wishlist the game on Steam and follow RuniQ on social media platforms to stay informed on further announcements and the release date.

RuniQ Studio, founded by industry veterans from Beenox (Activision), brings extensive games development experience to the company. The team has worked on globally successful franchises such as Skylanders, Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Call of Duty. In partnership with HMD Creations and its Heroes of Mount Dragon multimedia IP, RuniQ aims to develop captivating video games set in this universe. The company has received significant recognition, including winning the ninth edition of the Catapulte Pitching Contest and GDC Pitch Day in 2024, as well as support from the Canada Media Fund.
