This year, 57 gaming studios from 27 countries, including TiMi Studio Group, Rovio, Supercell, and Ubisoft, will participate in the jam to integrate the theme of nature into their games. The goal is to fundraise for conservation causes and engage players to share messages about the importance of nature protection, which will be shared with policy makers to support the protection of 30% of the planet by 2030. The jam has reached an annual average of 100 million daily active users and led to 1.5 million trees planted and $1.5 million raised since its inception. This year's jam will focus on research conducted by Dire Lark and the University of Edinburgh on effective design for green activations. The 59 studios have already started participating in workshops and conversations with experts ahead of the go-live launch date of June 5, World Environment Day. The full list of titles can be found on the Playing for the Planet website and includes 24 returnees from previous jams and 27 first-time participants. The Playing for the Planet Alliance is a membership-based initiative that supports the video games industry to reduce its environmental impact. The Green Game Jam is one of the alliance's annual projects and challenges studios to build 'green activations' that engage their players on environmental topics.
