Games for Change Announces 2024 Student Challenge Winners: Global Reach, Tabletop Games, and Real-World Impact

Indie Game Early Access Pc Games Virtual Reality Gaming Mobile Gaming Nintendo Switch Sony Playstation Microsoft Xbox Strategy Role Playing GameGames for Change, a leading organization in the use of games for social impact, announced the winners of the 2024 Student Challenge. This year, the program expanded globally, welcoming participants from 21 countries and introducing categories for board and tabletop game submissions. The themes for game design were focused on UN sustainability goals, encouraging students to explore solutions for greener communities, healthier oceans, and eco-friendly fashion.
Out of 1,000 original game submissions, 77 students and 2 educators were recognized for outstanding work on social impact themes and special award categories. The submissions were reviewed by a panel of 193 expert judges. Winners received prizes including games and tech and opportunities for networking and mentorship by industry leaders. The Game of the Year recipient received a $10,000 scholarship sponsored by Take-Two Interactive.
The Student Challenge was made possible by the support of theme and industry partners, including Two Bit Circus Foundation, EcoRise, PressStart, General Motors, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Verizon, Motorola Solutions Foundation, Take Two Interactive, Ocean Wise, Hasbro, and Unity.
Games for Change has been empowering game creators and innovators to drive real-world change since 2004, using games and immersive media to help people learn, improve their communities, and make the world a better place. The organization supports a global community of game developers working on using games to tackle real-world challenges, from humanitarian conflicts to climate change and education.
