Pc Games Indie Game Mobile Gaming Nintendo SwitchThe Game Boy Advance (GBA) was a popular handheld gaming device released by Nintendo in 2001, known for its 32-bit architecture and backwards compatibility with previous Game Boy models. Despite its short lifespan, it left a significant impact on many players and is now the subject of a new coffee table book, "GAMEBOOK: ADVANCE." This book, written by Paul Murphy, is the third and final installment in his GAMEBOOK trilogy and aims to celebrate the best of the GBA and its games.
"GAMEBOOK: ADVANCE" will feature a list of the best GBA games, historical dives into the platform, and in-depth retrospectives on many of the defining titles. It will also include contributions from various freelance writers and illustrators, many of whom worked on the previous GAMEBOOK entries. The book will cover the GBA era, from 2001 to 2006, and will include information on the Game Boy Player and DS, as well as a small look at the N-Gage and Pokémon Mini.
The book will be 21cm x 21cm in size, with a hardcover finish and high-quality paper stock. The funding target for the book is £20,000, which has already been achieved through a Kickstarter campaign. The book is currently 50% complete and is set to launch in January 2025.
"GAMEBOOK: ADVANCE" is an unofficial review and reference material that falls under fair use as a review, criticism, and research product. It will feature over 40 games with critique and commentary, as well as images of the software and hardware obtained personally and artwork commissioned exclusively for the book. The book will not be affiliated with Nintendo in any capacity.
Paul Murphy, the author, is a former school worker who left his job in 2021 to pursue writing about games. His first writing project was a book dedicated to Nintendo’s amiibo range, and he has since written about the classic handheld in a series of books, with this being the follow up to the GAMEBOOK and the GAMEBOOK COLOR. He plans to write about the Nintendo DS in 2025.
