Publisher 2P Games has announced that it is releasing a video game version of the best-selling gamebook, 49 Keys, which was a hit in Italy in 2022. The game, also called 49 Keys, is a narrative-driven, puzzle horror-esoteric adventure set in the 16th century. Players will take on the role of a friar from the Dominican Order who experiences hallucinations and sees demons. He inherits a mysterious legacy from his deceased master and must travel to a strange island to uncover the secret behind an heirloom.

The game is inspired by real magic books from the 16th century and features intricate puzzle solving, interaction with objects, and the creation of alchemical mixtures or the summoning of spirits based on the influence of the stars. The illustrations, created by Fabio Porfidia, are inspired by medieval manuscripts and add to the game's bizarre and anxious atmosphere.

49 Keys has multiple endings and routes, with each player's movement deciding the turn the story takes. It is set to be released on Steam later this year, and players can already wishlist it. 2P Games, the publisher, is a Chinese company that has released successful indie games like Immortal Life, Dust to the End, Greedland, Frozen Flame, and Looper Tactics.
