ESA Announces Accessible Games Initiative for Clear Accessibility Features
Gaming Staff • March 20, 2025
Pc Games Indie GameThe Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced the Accessible Games Initiative, a collaborative effort between video game companies to provide clear information about the accessibility features in their games. The initiative is launching with 24 tags that indicate specific accessibility features, such as clear text, large subtitles, narrated menus, and save options. These tags will be placed near game product information on digital storefronts, product pages, and digital catalogues, allowing players and other consumers to easily see what features are included in a game before purchasing.
The Accessible Games Initiative was developed in partnership with Electronic Arts, Google, Microsoft, Nintendo of America, and Ubisoft, and has already gained support from other companies including Amazon Games, Riot Games, Square Enix, and Warner Bros. Games. The initiative will be managed by the ESA and is completely voluntary for video game companies and storefronts to participate in.
The tags were developed with input from players with disabilities, accessibility advocacy groups, and game development teams to ensure they are useful and accurate. The initial list of tags is in U.S.-English, but the initiative plans to expand to other languages in the future. The criteria for the tags will also evolve as new technologies and features are developed.
The Accessible Games Initiative aims to help provide clear information about accessibility features in video games, making it easier for players with disabilities to find and enjoy games that meet their needs. For more information, visit
