Funcom's open-world multiplayer survival game, Dune: Awakening, set in the Dune universe, has been launched and received positive reviews from players and critics. The game has an 85% Very Positive rating on Steam with over 28,700 reviews, an 80 rating on Metacritic, and 81 on OpenCritic. It has beaten Funcom's previous peak concurrent players record three times, reaching over 189,000, and is the fastest-selling game of all time for the company.

Critics have praised the game for its faithfulness to the Dune universe, with visual and aural inspiration taken from Denis Villeneuve and Legendary's blockbuster films. The immersive world and authentic setting have been particularly noted, with VGMAG saying it's "the best way to experience Arrakis" and 4P stating that "I don't know of any game world that is more Dune than that of Dune: Awakening."
