Pc Games Indie Game Role Playing GameFuncom, the developer of Dune: Awakening, an Open World Survival MMO set in the Dune universe, recently unveiled the second Dune: Awakening Direct. The 30-minute showcase included interviews and game footage, highlighting character creation, the MMO-like server structure, and the spiritual journey players will undergo in the game. The game's narrative is based on an alternate timeline where Paul Atreides was never born, creating a power vacuum for players to explore.
Dune: Awakening features a robust character creation tool, where players can customize their appearance, home planet, and mentor's specialization, which determines their starting abilities. The game's server structure and overland map, which connects various massive sandbox maps, allow for a larger number of players in each, setting it apart from many other survival games.
The game has recently entered its persistent closed Beta, giving access to the full breadth of the game, from the Hagga Basin starting area to the Deep Desert endgame. Players can sign up for a chance to join the Beta on the official website and wishlist the game on Steam.
Funcom, an independent developer and publisher of online games, has a track record of more than twenty released games, including Conan Exiles, Secret World Legends, and Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. Legendary Entertainment, a leading media company, is also associated with the game, with film, television, and digital divisions dedicated to delivering content to worldwide audiences. The literary legacy of Dune's creator, Frank Herbert, is managed by his son Brian Herbert and grandchildren Kim Herbert and Byron Merritt.
