In the latest Panic Games Showcase, developers Julián Cordero and Sebastián Valbuena, along with publisher Panic, revealed a new trailer for their upcoming slice-of-life adventure game, despelote. The game is set in Quito, Ecuador in the year 2001, where a young boy named Julián explores his neighborhood and kicks around a soccer ball as his community anticipates Ecuador's qualification for the World Cup.

Despite some delays, the team is currently putting the finishing touches on the game and has announced an updated release window of early 2025. Despelote is a soccer game that focuses on people and their stories, allowing players to explore the streets and parks of Quito from Julián's perspective. The game features a physics-based soccer ball, a vibrant world full of characters, and a semi-autobiographical tale of youth.

Despelote is set to release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox X|S, Epic Games Store, and Steam in early 2025. The game's team, led by Julián Cordero and Sebastián Valbuena, has recorded photos and audio on location in Ecuador to create a strong sense of place.

Panic Inc., the game's publisher, is an ancient startup based in Portland, Oregon, that loves to create nice things and bring people everyday joy. They have previously published successful games like Firewatch and Untitled Goose Game.

Overall, despelote promises to be an immersive and heartwarming game that captures the culture and atmosphere of Quito, Ecuador. Fans of slice-of-life adventure games should keep an eye out for this one.
