AGDQ 2025 Raises Over $2.5 Million for Prevent Cancer Foundation

Pc Games Indie Game Action Game Role Playing Game Sony Playstation Microsoft XboxThe annual speedrunning charity event, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), took place in Pittsburgh, PA, from January 5-12, 2025, and raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The event was streamed on Games Done Quick’s Twitch channel and attracted over 2,000 in-person attendees and tens of thousands of online viewers. Speedrunners from around the world participated, showcasing their skills in a variety of games, new and old, with unique incentives and challenges to drive donations.
Some of the most memorable speedruns included a live concert during Crazy Taxi, a saxophone being used as a controller for Elden Ring, an opera performance after completing Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and a playthrough of New Super Mario Bros. Wii using only head and feet motion controls while playing piano. The “Awful Block,” featuring speedruns of terrible games, was also popular, with BradHarmar playing Superman 64 and KingJO444 playing Golf With Your Grandmother.
Games Done Quick has raised over $54 million for charities worldwide since 2010. Upcoming events include Back to Black, the first all-Black speedrunning charity event hosted by GDQ’s Black speedrunning community Black in a Flash and benefiting racial justice nonprofit Race Forward, and Frost Fatales, an all-women and femmes speedrunning showcase benefiting the National Women’s Law Center.
Games Done Quick is an organizer of video game speedrunning marathons, featuring high-level gameplay by speedrunners raising money for charity. The Prevent Cancer Foundation is dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection through research, education, outreach, and advocacy. The Foundation is committed to investing $20 million in innovative technologies to detect cancer early, $10 million to expand cancer screening and vaccination access to medically underserved communities, and $10 million to educate the public about screening and vaccination options.
